Information & Ritual Uses
With the Sun entering Aries and life reawaking all around, the energy is ripe for amplifying rapid life changes.
The Spring Equinox is considered a very lucky day for manifestation that requires work and determination. The ritual below is a simple yet effective way to harness the energy of the rising Sun to initiate a powerful energetic shift.
Spring Equinox Ritual includes:
- Sacred Power Ritual Blend to empower, clear personal blockages, and stimulate energetic changes
- 3 pure beeswax Candle Braids (crafted using 4 ritual candles each)
- Rosemary Smudge to stabilize chaotic or hindering energies
You Will Need:
- Sacred Power Ritual Blend
- 1 pure beeswax Candle Braid (crafted using 4 ritual candles)
- Rosemary Smudge to stabilize chaotic or hindering energies
- 4"x4" plain piece of paper
- Green pen, black pen, or Alkanet Ink
- Fireproof surface, ideally contained to avoid spilling excess wax.
When to Perform:
Within 72 hours of the Spring Equinox, write (yes, physically write) your desires on a 4"x4" plain sheet of paper. Use affirmative statements, such as:
- "My work is deeply fulfilling and I easily prosper."
- "I am now open and receptive to rapidly changing _____"
- "I am now supported to _____. All my needs are easily met."
- "I have the courage and energy to create/change/manifest _____"
Gently hold and roll the candle braid between the palms of your hands. Chant your manifestation statement and envision yourself experiencing that outcome. Do not let your mind wander or predict how this manifestation will come about. Let it go. You must only trust and allow the path of least resistance to lead you. This is how the energy will flow through you and lead you.
Within a couple of minutes, the beeswax will become a bit warm and sticky from the heat of your palms. If your candle braid came with the legs fully braided, pull apart the four legs approximately 1/2"-1". Holding the candle braid at a 45-degree angle over the paper, dust the candle with approximately 1/2 teaspoon of the Sacred Power Ritual Blend. Allow the excess to fall on the paper. Position the candle to stand on top of the paper.
Exclaim your ritual statement with power and authority. Now light the candle. Sit in front of the candle and stare at the space just above the flame. Allow your gaze to soften and become out of focus. Chant your ritual statement and envision the end result of your manifestation. Do this for as long as it feels comfortable and enjoyable. Do not force it.
Light the rosemary smudge from the flame of the candle. Carefully smudge the 6 inches above your head, your shoulder blades, the space between your belly button and collar bone, and the 6 inches below your feet (you will need to sit or lay).
Note: You will only need to burn about 1-2" of the smudge and may save the remainder for another ritual.
Allow the candle to burn fully. Unless the candle becomes a fire hazard, do not manipulate how the candle is burning. Let nature take its course. Assuming your ritual room is not drafty (all windows are closed, AC/heater off, etc.), your candle will visually convey to you any resistance and will continue burning until it has done its job. Again, do not manipulate or interfere with the flame unless it becomes a fire hazard. Possible ways the candle will burn and what it means:
- If the candle burns with minimal smoke and minimal soot, the resistance is gone, and the desire is already energetically aligned. You will soon witness or experience the manifestation.
- If the candle burns with smoke or soot and then extinguishes itself with minimal fire damage to the paper, the resistance has been burned through, and your energy is now correctly aligned.
- If the flame suddenly goes out or drowns itself in wax before reaching the bottom 1/2" of the candle, there is excessive interference. Therefore, before reattempting this ritual or any others involving this subject, perform a Banishing Ritual to remove energetic interference.
- If the candle lights the paper on fire and then burns for over 45 minutes, reconsider your desired manifestation. Internal resistance is disagreeing with your conscious mind. Your head, heart, and spirit are not aligned.
If your candle burned in one of the top 3 ways above, gather the ritual remnants of wax, excess herbs, paper, or ash. The next morning, before sunrise, dispose of the remnants in one of the following ways:
- Bury the remnants in your front yard
- Scatter the remnants in your front yard
- Place the remnants under your doormat
- Bury the remnants inside a healthy house plant
Old World Moon Phases
The Moon is of key importance for the Old World Witch. The Moon and its cycle (increase and decrease) impact the potency of rituals and their successes. The Moon amplifies rituals and works in harmony with the energies exerted by the Witch.
As Old World Witches, we utilize elemental forces for magick and mystical significance of the natural world and its fauna and flora: Esoteric knowledge. Lore of healing. Energetic resonance of herbs and roots. And, of course, the Moon.
The Old World Witch does not follow the exact terminology and specifications of modern astrologers and astronomers. We maintain the visual interpretation and energies of the Moon, as explained below.
When the Moon cannot be seen and is in the dark phase, it is referred to as the Dark Moon in Old World Witchcraft. Modern astronomers and astrologers call this darkness the New Moon because the cycle of the Moon is about to restart.
Old World Witches are not the only ones who follow this Dark Moon terminology. Several ancient cultures (such as Islam) define this period as the end of the month and the very first crescent of the Moon (Witch's New Moon) as the beginning of the month.
The Witch's Dark Moon is a night of stillness, contemplation, and banishment. The only types of rituals that should be done on the Dark Moon are banishment work or curses/hexes. The Dark Moon is also ideal for all kinds of divination and working with the departed.
The Moon is energetically at its lowest point and is more conducive to the mentioned rituals.
Witch's New Moon (first crescent)
The New Moon of the Old World Witch is called the Witch's New Moon. It is when the very first crescent or sliver of the Moon is visible. This is typically 2-3 nights after the Dark Moon.
With some variations, the Witch's New Moon rises in the daytime before noon and becomes visible in the day sky. It will be most visible at sunset and usually sets well before midnight. The Witch's New Moon is the same percentage all over the world - both in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. However, the tips of the Witch's New Moon point depend on the time, date, and location on Earth.
The Witch's New Moon is the ideal time to begin rituals that draw a life experience, physical possession, or situation to you. This can be for love, money, health, or personal development.
Rituals are best performed for 3-12 consecutive days. This is what leads to powerful, lasting, and most importantly, measurable results. Starting rituals three nights after the Dark Moon will give you exactly 12 days of rituals leading up to the Full Moon.
The Witch's New Moon is also the ideal time to begin a new venture, get married, apply for a job, or embark on a journey.
The same energetic attributes apply throughout the Waxing Moon, all the way up to the Full Moon.
The Full Moon is not only the most magickally potent and powerful time of the month, but it is also the most physically stimulating. As the Moon affects the ocean tides, so too does it affect our bodies. If you pay close attention to your body, you may have noticed that you may feel extra swollen or puffy on the mornings leading up to the full Moon and a couple of days thereafter. These are the days of maxi dresses, undereye concealer, and perhaps an inclination to wear fewer rings on your fingers.
Rituals are best performed for 3-12 consecutive days. This is what leads to powerful, lasting, and most importantly, measurable results. If you have been performing rituals leading up to the Full Moon, consider the night of the Full Moon the climax of your ritual.
The Full Moon signifies the cultivation of goals, the peak of a cycle, and emotional fulfillment. The Full Moon is best used to draw something into your life, such as love, financial prosperity, or self-development.
If, however, you are choosing not to perform any magick on the night of the Full Moon, simply sitting under the moon rays and energetically absorbing the magnetism will reawaken and revitalize your spirit.
Whether you're having a difficult time leaving an unsuitable relationship or are trying to eliminate negative self-talk, the Waning Moon is perfectly capable and willing to help phase out what is no longer needed or wanted.
In addition to removing negative influences from your life, this is also an appropriate time to cast revenge spells (curses).
The Waning Moon reminds us of things yet to be done and that time is slipping away. Anxiety is usually heightened during this time; therefore, self-care is critical.
