Information & Ritual Uses
This ritual utilizes Norse magick, ancient sigils, and the Viking Ritual Blend. When needing to summon ferocious bravery and fearless determination, use this ritual to overcome inhibitions and personal limitations. Ideal for building daring self-confidence or overcoming uncomfortable situations before going through an emotionally charged event; such as leaving a dysfunctional relationship, quitting a job to pursue your own business, standing up for justice, or embarking on a new life path.

In addition to this Ritual Kit you will need the following:
- A glass of mead, beer, or red wine in a fire-resistant glass (not plastic)
- 8"x8" square of plain paper
- Pen or pencil
- Matches or lighter
- Fireproof ritual surface, large enough to safely accommodate the paper.
- Very small cotton or velvet pouch
All Roots, Herbs, and Ritual Blends are packaged in thick glass 2 oz jars. The color, jar style, and closure may vary.
Ritual Instructions
The Fearless Determination ritual needs to be performed near a window (or skylight) facing the Full Moon. Alternatively, this ritual may be performed in the privacy of your backyard under the Full Moon.
Step 1: Draw the Old Norse Courage Sigils (below) on your sheet of paper. The left sigil should be on one side, the right sigil on the other. It is crucial that you draw these by hand. They do not need to be perfect, but they do need to be yours! Do not print.
Step 2: Lay two ritual candles on top of the backside sigil. Rolling them slowly back and forth over the sigil, allowing the energy to penetrate to the beeswax (beeswax absorbs and expands energy). In your mind's eye, visualize the situation in which you are specifically desiring more courage. See yourself being brave, determined, and unstoppable.
Step 3: Lay two ritual candles on top of the front sigil. Rolling them slowly back and forth over the sigil, allowing the energy to penetrate to the beeswax. In your mind's eye, visualize the situation in which you are specifically desiring more courage. See yourself being brave, determined, and unstoppable.
Step 4: While the candles lay on the front-facing sigil, dust them with about 1/2 teaspoon of the Viking Ritual Blend. Slowly roll them back and forth, allowing the ritual blend to firmly bind to the wax. In your mind's eye, visualize the situation in which you are specifically desiring more courage. See yourself being brave, determined, and unstoppable.
Step 5: Light one ritual candle, hold it at a 45-degree angle directly at the top end of the sigil (see illustration) to create a small pool of wax (3-4 drops of wax will do). Stick the candle directly into the pool of wax and hold it for about 5 seconds, until the center hardens just a bit and the candle is standing upright without any assistance.
Note: It may take you a couple of times to get the hang of this, but once you do, it will become a permanent part of your spellwork repertoire.
Step 6: Repeat Step 5 with the bottom candle.
Step 7: Place the (filled) beverage glass in the center of the sigil, as illustrated.
Step 8: Look at the ale inside the glass. Allow your gaze to soften. The contents will be illuminated by the flame of the candles. It is now absorbing the energies of the sigil and the essence of the burning herbs, roots, and resins. The elixir of courage is brewing.
Step 9: Light your chosen smudge bundle from the flame of a candle. Gently and carefully move the smudge bundle around your body. Pay extra attention to your lower back, tailbone, and both shoulder blades. Next, smudge the space 10 inches or so above your head and the auric field 10 inches or so below your feet. To smudge the space below your feet, you will need to sit with your legs up or bend toward your feet while laying.
Step 10: Allow the candles to burn all the way down.
If the candles set the sigil on fire, take that as a good sign, for it signifies the energies have been fully absorbed into the elixir. Do not remove the glass from the sigil until the fire has completely put itself out.
If the candles extinguish themselves in their own pool of wax, do not worry. Simply light two opposing ends of the sigil (with the glass still being on top) and watch the sigil burn. Consider repeating the ritual the following Full Moon.
Note: Do not try to force or manipulate the candles to burn one way or another. Allow nature to take its force and serve as a divination tool.
Step 11: Once the glass is cool enough to handle, gaze up at the Full Moon, and drink the beverage.
Remnant Disposal: Place the remnants of the ritual inside the small pouch. Carry it with you for 29 days. At the end of the 29th day, bury the remnants (without the pouch) at the base of a mature tree, preferably a spruce or any evergreen.

Old World Moon Phases
The Moon is of key importance for the Old World Witch. The Moon and its cycle (increase and decrease) impact the potency of rituals and their successes. The Moon amplifies rituals and works in harmony with the energies exerted by the Witch.
As Old World Witches, we utilize elemental forces for magick and mystical significance of the natural world and its fauna and flora: Esoteric knowledge. Lore of healing. Energetic resonance of herbs and roots. And, of course, the Moon.
The Old World Witch does not follow the exact terminology and specifications of modern astrologers and astronomers. We maintain the visual interpretation and energies of the Moon, as explained below.

Dark Moon
When the Moon cannot be seen and is in the dark phase, it is referred to as the Dark Moon in Old World Witchcraft. Modern astronomers and astrologers call this darkness the New Moon because the cycle of the Moon is about to restart.
Old World Witches are not the only ones who follow this Dark Moon terminology. Several ancient cultures (such as Islam) define this period as the end of the month and the very first crescent of the Moon (Witch's New Moon) as the beginning of the month.
The Witch's Dark Moon is a night of stillness, contemplation, and banishment. The only types of rituals that should be done on the Dark Moon are banishment work or curses/hexes. The Dark Moon is also ideal for all kinds of divination and working with the departed.
The Moon is energetically at its lowest point and is more conducive to the mentioned rituals.
Witch's New Moon (first crescent)
The New Moon of the Old World Witch is called the Witch's New Moon. It is when the very first crescent or sliver of the Moon is visible. This is typically 2-3 nights after the Dark Moon.
With some variations, the Witch's New Moon rises in the daytime before noon and becomes visible in the day sky. It will be most visible at sunset and usually sets well before midnight. The Witch's New Moon is the same percentage all over the world - both in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. However, the tips of the Witch's New Moon point depend on the time, date, and location on Earth.
The Witch's New Moon is the ideal time to begin rituals that draw a life experience, physical possession, or situation to you. This can be for love, money, health, or personal development.
Rituals are best performed for 3-12 consecutive days. This is what leads to powerful, lasting, and most importantly, measurable results. Starting rituals three nights after the Dark Moon will give you exactly 12 days of rituals leading up to the Full Moon.
The Witch's New Moon is also the ideal time to begin a new venture, get married, apply for a job, or embark on a journey.
The same energetic attributes apply throughout the Waxing Moon, all the way up to the Full Moon.
The Full Moon is not only the most magickally potent and powerful time of the month, but it is also the most physically stimulating. As the Moon affects the ocean tides, so too does it affect our bodies. If you pay close attention to your body, you may have noticed that you may feel extra swollen or puffy on the mornings leading up to the full Moon and a couple of days thereafter. These are the days of maxi dresses, undereye concealer, and perhaps an inclination to wear fewer rings on your fingers.
Rituals are best performed for 3-12 consecutive days. This is what leads to powerful, lasting, and most importantly, measurable results. If you have been performing rituals leading up to the Full Moon, consider the night of the Full Moon the climax of your ritual.
The Full Moon signifies the cultivation of goals, the peak of a cycle, and emotional fulfillment. The Full Moon is best used to draw something into your life, such as love, financial prosperity, or self-development.
If, however, you are choosing not to perform any magick on the night of the Full Moon, simply sitting under the moon rays and energetically absorbing the magnetism will reawaken and revitalize your spirit.
Whether you're having a difficult time leaving an unsuitable relationship or are trying to eliminate negative self-talk, the Waning Moon is perfectly capable and willing to help phase out what is no longer needed or wanted.
In addition to removing negative influences from your life, this is also an appropriate time to cast revenge spells (curses).
The Waning Moon reminds us of things yet to be done and that time is slipping away. Anxiety is usually heightened during this time; therefore, self-care is critical.
