Information & Ritual Uses
Ritual to terminate romantic relationships, business partnerships, and alliances. Also suitable for permanently cutting ties with soured friendships and those who inflict negativity upon you. The Cease & Release Ritual does not harm the target(s) in any way; instead, it eliminates their presence in your life or in each other's lives. This ritual cuts all energetic and emotional ties, and makes sure your paths (or their paths) no longer cross.

In addition to this Ritual Kit, you will need the following:
- Photograph of the person you want to banish from your life. If performing this ritual to break up another couple or a business alliance, you will need their photo.
- Pen
- Lighter/matches
- Fireproof ritual surface, such as a metal or stone tray.
- Small fireproof bowl for smudging
All Roots, Herbs, and Ritual Blends are packaged in thick glass 2 oz jars. The color, jar style, and closure may vary.
Ritual Instructions
The Cease & Release ritual can be performed for up to 6 consecutive nights, depending on the intensity of the situation.
- If the person you are trying to banish is a stalker, you will need to perform this ritual for six consecutive nights. If doing so, begin the ritual six nights before the Dark Moon.
- If the relationship you are choosing to now end is somewhat amicable, but you are trying to cut all ties energetically, performing this one time, within 12 hours of the Dark Moon, will be sufficient.
- If you are somewhere between the two examples, perform the ritual for three consecutive nights, with the third night being on the Dark Moon.
Step 1: Write the person's name on the back of their photograph along with:
"{name} our paths have split and shall never cross again. Now farewell and stay away!"
Step 2: Place the photograph on a fireproof surface. Roll a single Ritual Candle across the photograph, allowing the beeswax to pick up the energy of the target.
Step 3: While the Ritual Candle remains on the photo, dust the candle with 1/4 teaspoon each of the Slippery Elm Powder and Verbena Powder, allowing the excess to fall upon the photograph. Firmly roll the candle in the herbs over the photograph.
Step 4: With great power and authority, exclaim your written statement while looking in the target's eyes nine times.
Step 5: While holding the Ritual Candle in one hand, light it and hold it at a 45-degree angle over the center of the photograph. Create a small pool of wax in the center of the photograph; 3-4 drops of wax will do. Stick the base of the Ritual Candle directly into the pool of wax and hold it for about 5 seconds until the center hardens just a bit, and the candle is standing upright without any assistance.
Step 6: Allow the candle to burn all the way down.
If the flame catches the photo on fire, allow the flame to consume it. It is a good sign.
If the flame extinguishes itself before destroying the photo, relight the photo and burn it to ash.
Step 7: Repeat this ritual 2-6 times, depending on the severity of the situation.
Step 8: On the final night of the ritual, which should be the Dark Moon, light the Cedar Smudge Bundle from the light of the candle. While looking at the target's eyes on the photograph, chant
"{name} our paths have split and shall never cross again. Now farewell and stay away!"
Smudge your entire body, including the soles of your feet and about 5-10 inches above your head. Tap the ashes of the Cedar Smudge into the fireproof bowl; you must collect the ashes for ritual remnant disposal.
Step 9: Allow the Cedar to continue smoldering as the Ritual Candle burns. When the Ritual Candle flame has consumed the photo, place the ashes into the fireproof smudge bowl. Mix all the remnants, including those from the prior nights, into the same bowl.
Step 10: What you do with the remnants of your ritual is just as important as the ritual itself! The ritual does not end when the candles extinguish - it is not complete until you return the remnants to the Earth. The Earth and the universal energy carry and propel your magick and your spellwork to its full completion.
As the sun rises the next morning, pack a trowel (small gardening shovel), a small hammer, the Wrought Iron Coffin Nail, and the ritual remnants. Head out to a nearby forest or hiking trail. As you make your way into the forest, try to find an unmarked or low-traffic trail. Dig a small hole in the ground on the trail, or slightly to the side of the trail. Place the remnants into the hole and cover back up with dirt. As you strike the Coffin Nail through the grave of your ritual remnants, exclaim:
"{name} our paths have split and shall never cross again. Now farewell and stay away!"
Walk away and do not look back. Avoid that park/forest/trail for a full (29-day) moon cycle.
Old World Moon Phases
The Moon is of key importance for the Old World Witch. The Moon and its cycle (increase and decrease) impact the potency of rituals and their successes. The Moon amplifies rituals and works in harmony with the energies exerted by the Witch.
As Old World Witches, we utilize elemental forces for magick and mystical significance of the natural world and its fauna and flora: Esoteric knowledge. Lore of healing. Energetic resonance of herbs and roots. And, of course, the Moon.
The Old World Witch does not follow the exact terminology and specifications of modern astrologers and astronomers. We maintain the visual interpretation and energies of the Moon, as explained below.

Dark Moon
When the Moon cannot be seen and is in the dark phase, it is referred to as the Dark Moon in Old World Witchcraft. Modern astronomers and astrologers call this darkness the New Moon because the cycle of the Moon is about to restart.
Old World Witches are not the only ones who follow this Dark Moon terminology. Several ancient cultures (such as Islam) define this period as the end of the month and the very first crescent of the Moon (Witch's New Moon) as the beginning of the month.
The Witch's Dark Moon is a night of stillness, contemplation, and banishment. The only types of rituals that should be done on the Dark Moon are banishment work or curses/hexes. The Dark Moon is also ideal for all kinds of divination and working with the departed.
The Moon is energetically at its lowest point and is more conducive to the mentioned rituals.
Witch's New Moon (first crescent)
The New Moon of the Old World Witch is called the Witch's New Moon. It is when the very first crescent or sliver of the Moon is visible. This is typically 2-3 nights after the Dark Moon.
With some variations, the Witch's New Moon rises in the daytime before noon and becomes visible in the day sky. It will be most visible at sunset and usually sets well before midnight. The Witch's New Moon is the same percentage all over the world - both in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. However, the tips of the Witch's New Moon point depend on the time, date, and location on Earth.
The Witch's New Moon is the ideal time to begin rituals that draw a life experience, physical possession, or situation to you. This can be for love, money, health, or personal development.
Rituals are best performed for 3-12 consecutive days. This is what leads to powerful, lasting, and most importantly, measurable results. Starting rituals three nights after the Dark Moon will give you exactly 12 days of rituals leading up to the Full Moon.
The Witch's New Moon is also the ideal time to begin a new venture, get married, apply for a job, or embark on a journey.
The same energetic attributes apply throughout the Waxing Moon, all the way up to the Full Moon.
The Full Moon is not only the most magickally potent and powerful time of the month, but it is also the most physically stimulating. As the Moon affects the ocean tides, so too does it affect our bodies. If you pay close attention to your body, you may have noticed that you may feel extra swollen or puffy on the mornings leading up to the full Moon and a couple of days thereafter. These are the days of maxi dresses, undereye concealer, and perhaps an inclination to wear fewer rings on your fingers.
Rituals are best performed for 3-12 consecutive days. This is what leads to powerful, lasting, and most importantly, measurable results. If you have been performing rituals leading up to the Full Moon, consider the night of the Full Moon the climax of your ritual.
The Full Moon signifies the cultivation of goals, the peak of a cycle, and emotional fulfillment. The Full Moon is best used to draw something into your life, such as love, financial prosperity, or self-development.
If, however, you are choosing not to perform any magick on the night of the Full Moon, simply sitting under the moon rays and energetically absorbing the magnetism will reawaken and revitalize your spirit.
Whether you're having a difficult time leaving an unsuitable relationship or are trying to eliminate negative self-talk, the Waning Moon is perfectly capable and willing to help phase out what is no longer needed or wanted.
In addition to removing negative influences from your life, this is also an appropriate time to cast revenge spells (curses).
The Waning Moon reminds us of things yet to be done and that time is slipping away. Anxiety is usually heightened during this time; therefore, self-care is critical.
