Information & Ritual Uses
When working to obtain a specific material goal (house, new car, better-paying clients, etc.), you will occasionally come across situations where regardless of what you do, something or someone gets in your way. Plans don't line up, necessary financing falls through, inability to find what you need due to market shortage, etc. This ritual helps dispel roadblocks in order to proceed with desired plans or goals. All Roots, Herbs, and Ritual Blends are packaged in thick glass 2 oz jars. The color, jar style, and closure may vary.
In addition to this Ritual Kit, you will need:
- Fireproof container
- Paper circle
- Small brush
- 1/4 teaspoon olive oil
- Matches or lighter
- Fireproof surface
- Optional: If wanting to manifest something item-specific (car, house, etc.), have a picture of it ready.
Ritual Instructions
The Dispel & Conquer ritual can be performed between the Witch's New Moon and the Full Moon.
If possible or practical, perform this ritual right before, during, or slightly after sunrise. The rising energy of the sun will propel your work.
Allow 45 minutes to perform this ritual, including candle burn time.
Instructions:
Find a quiet space and time where you will not be disturbed. Ideally, this ritual should be performed near an open window, as this ritual can sometimes get a bit smoky.
Take a deep breath and allow your body and your mind to relax.
Step 1: To create the Alkanet Root Ink, mix approximately 1/2 teaspoon of the Alkanet Root Powder into the small bowl of olive oil, and gently mix using the brush. The Alkanet Root Ink should be just thick enough that it holds a line for about a second after you draw your brush through it.
Step 2: Using the small brush, write in a spiral on the paper circle exactly what you wish to achieve (not what you wish to banish!) in present terms.
For example:
"A condo that suits me perfectly is now available and ready for me."
"I now attract and easily maintain only well-paying clients."
"I am easily able to afford and buy a car {if wanting a specific car, write it here}"
This is now your mantra.
Don't worry about your writing being pretty or even legible! Your mind and energy field know exactly what you are trying to do.
Step 3: After writing what you wish to manifest with the Alkanet Root Ink, you must get into the frame of mind of already having that which you wish to manifest. Feel the joy and the relief in knowing that the problems and roadblocks are now being dissolved.
Step 4: While staying in the feeling place of welcoming the new manifestation, hold the four Ritual Candles between the palms of your hands, gently rolling them back and forth. As you're rolling the candles between your hands, begin quietly chanting your mantra. Visualize the manifestation with your mind's eye. Experience it in the present moment. Here and now. Easily and effortlessly.
Step 5: Once the candles are warm from the heat of your hands, place the four Ritual Candles directly on top of the paper circle. Dust 1/2 teaspoon of the Attainment Ritual Blend over the Ritual Candles. Some of the herbs will land on the paper circle. Begin chanting your mantra. Firmly roll the candles across the paper, allowing the herbs to adhere to the beeswax. Feel the energy being absorbed by the candles. Continue visualizing your manifestation and chanting.
Step 6: Create a Candle Braid. Gather the four Ritual Candles in your hand, make sure they are lined up evenly. While holding both ends of the candles, gently begin to twist in opposite directions. The motion is similar to wringing out wet laundry. The candles' bottoms (or legs) should then be untwisted for the last 1/2-1 inch of the candles. Spread each of the candle legs to 4 opposing sides, forming a self-contained base.
Step 7: Carefully pick up the paper circle (with the loose herbs on top) and the candle, and place it inside the fireproof bowl. Note: If you have a photo of the exact item or goal you wish to manifest, place it underneath the fireproof container, not inside.
Step 8: Recite your mantra eight times, then light the candle.
Step 9: Stare through the flame of the candle. Your gaze should soften and become out of focus. Your own senses of sight and sound will drown out for just a few seconds.
Step 10: Recite your mantra eight more times.
Step 11: Sit quietly in meditation; feeling the energy and resonance of that which you wish to dispel quickly resolve itself and disappear. In your mind's eye, see these negative influences and the undesirable energies leaving you—your blockages clearing. Your goals are now manifesting.
Remnant Disposal: The fireproof container will be very hot. Leave it in place to let it cool. You will be left with a self-contained nugget of ritual remnant. Scoop it out of the fireproof bowl and bury the ritual remnants in your front yard. If you are a city-dweller, bury the remnant inside a large healthy house plant or in your front yard.
Expectation & Repetition: Because every roadblock and goal is different, there are no definitive rules of how often this ritual should be repeated. For most roadblocks and manifestations, you will only need to perform this ritual once. If you have a serious roadblock and a big goal to manifest, you should perform this ritual every 28 days, preferably right before the Full Moon.
Old World Moon Phases
The Moon is of key importance for the Old World Witch. The Moon and its cycle (increase and decrease) impact the potency of rituals and their successes. The Moon amplifies rituals and works in harmony with the energies exerted by the Witch.
As Old World Witches, we utilize elemental forces for magick and mystical significance of the natural world and its fauna and flora: Esoteric knowledge. Lore of healing. Energetic resonance of herbs and roots. And, of course, the Moon.
The Old World Witch does not follow the exact terminology and specifications of modern astrologers and astronomers. We maintain the visual interpretation and energies of the Moon, as explained below.

Dark Moon
When the Moon cannot be seen and is in the dark phase, it is referred to as the Dark Moon in Old World Witchcraft. Modern astronomers and astrologers call this darkness the New Moon because the cycle of the Moon is about to restart.
Old World Witches are not the only ones who follow this Dark Moon terminology. Several ancient cultures (such as Islam) define this period as the end of the month and the very first crescent of the Moon (Witch's New Moon) as the beginning of the month.
The Witch's Dark Moon is a night of stillness, contemplation, and banishment. The only types of rituals that should be done on the Dark Moon are banishment work or curses/hexes. The Dark Moon is also ideal for all kinds of divination and working with the departed.
The Moon is energetically at its lowest point and is more conducive to the mentioned rituals.
Witch's New Moon (first crescent)
The New Moon of the Old World Witch is called the Witch's New Moon. It is when the very first crescent or sliver of the Moon is visible. This is typically 2-3 nights after the Dark Moon.
With some variations, the Witch's New Moon rises in the daytime before noon and becomes visible in the day sky. It will be most visible at sunset and usually sets well before midnight. The Witch's New Moon is the same percentage all over the world - both in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. However, the tips of the Witch's New Moon point depend on the time, date, and location on Earth.
The Witch's New Moon is the ideal time to begin rituals that draw a life experience, physical possession, or situation to you. This can be for love, money, health, or personal development.
Rituals are best performed for 3-12 consecutive days. This is what leads to powerful, lasting, and most importantly, measurable results. Starting rituals three nights after the Dark Moon will give you exactly 12 days of rituals leading up to the Full Moon.
The Witch's New Moon is also the ideal time to begin a new venture, get married, apply for a job, or embark on a journey.
The same energetic attributes apply throughout the Waxing Moon, all the way up to the Full Moon.
The Full Moon is not only the most magickally potent and powerful time of the month, but it is also the most physically stimulating. As the Moon affects the ocean tides, so too does it affect our bodies. If you pay close attention to your body, you may have noticed that you may feel extra swollen or puffy on the mornings leading up to the full Moon and a couple of days thereafter. These are the days of maxi dresses, undereye concealer, and perhaps an inclination to wear fewer rings on your fingers.
Rituals are best performed for 3-12 consecutive days. This is what leads to powerful, lasting, and most importantly, measurable results. If you have been performing rituals leading up to the Full Moon, consider the night of the Full Moon the climax of your ritual.
The Full Moon signifies the cultivation of goals, the peak of a cycle, and emotional fulfillment. The Full Moon is best used to draw something into your life, such as love, financial prosperity, or self-development.
If, however, you are choosing not to perform any magick on the night of the Full Moon, simply sitting under the moon rays and energetically absorbing the magnetism will reawaken and revitalize your spirit.
Whether you're having a difficult time leaving an unsuitable relationship or are trying to eliminate negative self-talk, the Waning Moon is perfectly capable and willing to help phase out what is no longer needed or wanted.
In addition to removing negative influences from your life, this is also an appropriate time to cast revenge spells (curses).
The Waning Moon reminds us of things yet to be done and that time is slipping away. Anxiety is usually heightened during this time; therefore, self-care is critical.
